child hood

it’s been well documented that the calico does not intend, now or ever, to drop a litter. however, many of my childhood friends have spawned and continue to do so. i cannot help but remember some of the activities and amusements we took part in when we ourselves were kids and wonder if they will take as much delight in witnessing some of the silliness and perhaps recklessness that we displayed.

will they patiently listen to several rounds of the diarrhea song? you know the one, everyone, altogether now:

you may think it’s funny but it’s really brown and runny…

will their heart stop cold the first time they see them racing downhill, standing on their bike seat with the wind whipping their fresh little faces? will they be tempted to beat them senseless or lock them up the first time they discover their child wasn’t exactly where he or she was supposed to be?

it will be my delight to remind them of the time we had to where extra lip gloss because the bright pink, strawberry flavored rolling papers we thought were so cool left stains on our lips. or the time we left six flags with sixteen-year-old boys we had just met and went parking. perhaps a reminder of the time we doused our winter coats with lysol to kill the smoky smell of the fire we had just set in the woods. those damp musty leaves in our wooded walk to school served as a cooler for the beers we stashed and downed on our way to mrs. markwell’s seventh grade class.

of course these fine days children are far,far more supervised than we ever dreamed of being and each moment of their days must be accounted for. so, chances are my numerous nieces and nephews will not be in danger of pre-teen pregnancy and/or drug and alcohol abuse but it will be their god given right, hell their very duty, to come up with a brand new assortment of devilment to drive their parents completely insane.

prevention is kinder than destruction. each year over six million healthy dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are killed as surplus. remember: neuter, spay and don't let them stray!
