but true!

sundays have proven to be a rather nice workday. i wasn’t certain if i’d enjoy them, particularly knowing that the rest of the universe was probably on a patio somewhere chatting glibly over a pitcher of bloody marys, but it’s good. the shift is short and the atmosphere mellow – usually.

today i showed and there were three different wedding parties preparing for the big day. blessedly, i work as a colorist so i did not have to deal with any of that done-up-sprayed-down nonsense but the air was charged all the same. estrogen and excitement.

my advice to anyone in the early stages of planning a traditional wedding would be - take the money and run! it will always be larger and more expensive no matter how careful and committed you are to budget and it will, with each passing day, be less and less about the bride and groom and more and more about pleasing the mothers. oh yes, a mutant cousin you’ve never even met whose been institutionalized since birth will be hauled out and squeezed into a sea-foam bridesmaid's gown so fast your head will spin. (showering all with white tulle and baby’s breath)

if you don’t believe me then consider the following a sign, an omen if you will – today, in a flurry of hairspray and sequins, one wedding party scurried to their cars in order to race to the church. the mother of the bride was bending over to place a package into the trunk of her car when one of the bridesmaids backed into her with her car, knocking the woman off her feet and into the trunk, the impact closing the trunk lid.

the stylist, my co-worker, was then offered a great deal of money to follow them to the church to re-do mama’s hair – the blood having to be rinsed out and all. now i’m not knocking pageantry and celebration, i know weddings can be glorious and beautiful but when people start running one another down with automobiles i say skip the ceremony and get right to the honeymoon!

prevention is kinder than destruction. each year over six million healthy dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are killed as surplus. remember: neuter, spay and don't let them stray!
